Quote from an Owner: Polish Lowland Sheepdogs are medium-sized, intelligent herding dogs that are truly a delight for the knowledgeable owner. As with all working dogs, they have strong wills and need a firm, but fair owner. The coat needs constant care for the show ring, but a "puppy" cut looks great on an adult dog. They are tireless dogs, and will walk or work with you for hours outdoors. They love children and small animals and are very protective of them when raised together. Indoors, especially as adults, they have a tendency to lay by a door to wait for activity times, and to watch and protect their "flock" They are not kennel dogs; they must be with their families to be happy.                                                        ~Cj Titus

AKC Height: The height of a PON (abbreviation for Polish Lowland Sheepdog), measured at the withers, is 18 to 20 inches for a dog; 17 to 19 inches for a bitch. Weight: Average weight is 35-50 pounds. Color: All coat colors are acceptable. The most common colors are white (with either black, gray or sandy patches) and gray, with white or chocolate.

Basic Requirements: The Polish Lowland Sheepdog takes two to three years to mature mentally and physically. The PON is also keenly intelligent, thriving on stimulation and socialization, and has a high "pack drive." Successful ownership requires building time into your schedule to include your dog in activities and providing the training and exercise he requires. These are not self-socializing dogs. Owning a dog is a lifetime commitment, and in the case of the PON this can be 10-15 years.

Temperament: Polish Lowland Sheepdogs require a clear idea of 'pack structure' and order. Humans must be the clear leaders, and a successful adjustment and relationship with all people regularly in contact with your dog is essential. You don't need to own a home with a fence in the suburbs to be the ideal owner. However, you do need to be realistic about the problems of owning a dog in an apartment or condo. Many PONs live happy lives in high-rises, as their owners have made the commitment to give their dogs the exercise and stimulation that they need to be social, happy dogs. PONs make good watch dogs. They are intelligent and independent by nature.

Health: (Health Dictionary click here) A very healthy breed. Hip Dysplasia and PRA (eye disorder) should both be tested for before breeding.
