AKC Height: Ideally, between 13 and 16 inches at the shoulder. Color: Black, blue merle, and sable (ranging from golden through mahogany); marked with varying amounts of white and/or tan.

Basic Requirements: Shetland Sheepdogs are active dogs that require a moderate-sized yard in which to run and play. Bi-weekly brushing will help to prevent tangles and control moderate shedding.

Temperament: Shetland Sheepdogs are intelligent dogs that train easily. They have a strong desire to please their owners. They make good family dogs and are good with children. Shelties will bark if a stranger approaches the home.

Health (Health Dictionary click here) Average lifespan is 13 years. Watch for hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, eye problems, Von Willebrand's disease, epilepsy, Dermatomyositis
